Education is Key to Protecting Boaters on Lake Martin

Boater Safety supports our mission to protect boaters on Lake Martin. As we are into summer and full pool on the lake, Boater Safety is paramount to assure the safety and enjoyment by residents and visitors to Lake Martin. The LMRA Buoy Team works to manage and maintain all safety buoys on Lake Martin and educate our residents and visitors on safe boating.

As of the end of April, this team has:

1. LMRA provided boat captains & Regulatory Buoy Training for two “Women on Lake Martin” Boater Safety events at Russell Marine River North in March and Kowaliga in April. Also, leading classroom training were ALEA Marine Patrol and TowBoatUS. Over 45 attendees received classroom and on-water training.

2. LMRA presented Lake Martin Regulatory Buoys details at two Boater Safety Courses conducted by ALEA Marine Patrol, at The Ridge Marina on April 1 and April 8. Approximately 80 attendees participated in each session.

3. LMRA has partnered with Children’s Harbor to support their Boat Captain/First Mate education program.

In all, 80 volunteer hours were invested in these five events.
