A misty morning at Wind Creek State Park

Wind Creek State Park

Sprawling across 1,445 acres, Wind Creek State Park has been a mecca for generations of lake lovers. The park boasts the largest state-operated campground in the United States with 626 sites, 187 of them on the water. Bath houses are scattered throughout the grounds, and laundry facilities are available. There’s plenty for day visitors to enjoy, too. There’s a swimming area, a boat launch ramp, fishing pier, hiking trails and picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters. There’s also a camp store and a marina. Pontoon boats and motorized and non-motorized jon boats are available for rent. If you bring your own boat, the launch free is $4. The park is open for day use from 7 a.m. to sundown. Daily admission is $3 for adults to age 61. Admission for children 6-11 and adults 62 or older is $1. Season passes also are available.
