Boating Safety Committee

Rendell ClarkRendell Clark, Chairman

The mission of this committee is to promote boating safety on Lake Martin. The primary thrust of the work is to purchase, place and maintain hazard markers identifying underwater hazards that might impair boater safety. This is a highly important and highly visible program under the direction of LMRA. The Alabama Marine Police (AMP) have authorized LMRA to identify hazards and place hazard markers where needed. All other water designation markers must be approved by AMP.

We also conduct boating safety classes in cooperation with the AMP. Additionally, we initiate and support legislation that has the goal of promoting boating safety.  LMRA owns two pontoon boats and buoy work is performed by a team of volunteers who work primarily during the spring and summer months. LMRA volunteers will make reasonable efforts to mark hazards and place buoys in a timely manner. However, because LMRA’s revenue is derived from membership dues, cost is a factor that must be considered. Therefore, the timing of placement and the location of the placement of hazard markers is at the sole discretion of LMRA. To report a missing or damaged buoy, please call 256-212-1422 or 256-329-0835.
